Description

The 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser was launched on the market to keep-up the Land Cruiser badge high and proud. It was available with three doors, as well as with five doors.

The fourth generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser started its journey in 2009. It didn't look too different than the model it replaced it. For some unadvised viewers, that model could just pass as a facelift. But it was a new vehicle. From the front, it was hard to tell the difference between a 3 or a 5 door version of a Prado. Both of them had the same chromed grille with 6 vertical slats. From the side though, it was clear that not only there were fewer doors, but also a shorter wheelbase for the 3 doors when compared to the 5-door version.

Inside the vehicle, there was room for five passengers, with a decent amount of trunk space. Not too much though. For those who wanted more, the rear seats could have been folded away. Luckily, the spare-wheel was not located inside the trunk. There was an option to install it outside the tailgate or underneath the car. The standard audio unit featured a basic LCD display, but a bigger, color screen was offered as an option. It could also show various information regarding fuel consumption and Eco-driving tips.

The short. 2451 mm (96.5") wheelbase made the car behave better in some off-road situations, due to a tighter turning radius and a better break-over angle.

Press Release

Land Cruiser 150 achieves Euro 5 compliance, with more power, lower fuel consumption and less emissions

Brussels, Belgium - For six decades, the Toyota Land Cruiser has been conquering the toughest and most demanding working environments around the world. This iconic model is the world’s best–selling four-wheel drive vehicle.

Offering a unique combination of outstanding off-road capability, on-road driving pleasure and the highest standards of quality and comfort, the Land Cruiser has attracted over 5 million customers in more than 170 countries1.

Launched at the end of 2009, the latest generation Land Cruiser 150 series has already sold more than 22,000 units across Europe during the first three quarters of 2010.

The new Land Cruiser 150 offers superior driving performance and refinement on even the toughest tracks, trails and terrain, through the combination of three core product values.

Firstly, its legendary quality, durability and reliability, building on a long history of trusted performance and high safety levels.

Secondly, the unrivalled balance of on- and off-road driving performance offered by its durable engine line-up, advanced suspension and sophisticated driver aid technologies.

And, thirdly, its refined, versatile interior, providing a functional yet luxurious environment with superior passenger comfort.

1 Until 2009.

Equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), the Land Cruiser 150 3.0 litre D-4D now complies with Euro 5 emission standards (since early November).

The D-4D benefits from enhancements in engine performance, including quieter running and a power output increase of 17hp to 190 hp, while fuel consumption has been reduced by 0.3l to 8.2l / 100 km, and CO2 emissions have been lowered to 213 g / km.

To achieve this combination of increased power, enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, the following measures have been adopted:

Piezo-electric fuel injectors have been introduced with a maximum injection pressure of 200 MPa, resulting in higher output, lower fuel consumption and lower emissions. Ceramic glow-plugs with variable temperature control have been fitted to enhance low temperature starting and lower emissions.
A low, 15:1 compression ratio and the optimisation of the combustion chamber shape combine to reduce fuel consumption and emissions and also lower engine noise. Quietness has been further enhanced through the introduction of an engine and crank pulley cover.
A variable pressure oil pump and low-viscosity oil have been adopted and the oil seal improved, reducing engine friction and thereby increasing fuel efficiency.
Within the exhaust system, a double pipe, stainless steel exhaust manifold with low heat capacity and superior heat insulation has been adopted, allowing the catalyst to reach optimum operating temperature more quickly after engine start, thereby lowering emissions.

Other key improvements for lower emissions are the highly efficient intercooler which also enhances power output, the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler, enlarged and equipped with a three-stage bypass switch valve, and the exhaust fuel injector added after the turbocharger.
